It's not very clear how official is this port, though. I have
asked in the forum. The tablets are indeed useful devices for stuff
like http://sportstracker.nokia.com/
Haven´t had a chance to play with Sports/Activity tracker yet
since I have an N75. But.... is that yet another unique
login for a Nokia service I detect?
Interesting yes, useful maybe. The phone side of things it's
taking off that much although it seems to have a cult following.
Adding it to the tablets can only bring in the vehicle crowd I
suppose, jogging with a N8*0 wouldn't be fun!
Push bikes; ok, but cars, planes, boats insert other
transport I feel has no place on SPORTS
tracker.
On a side note, nice to see it can be ported
though.
@qgil A BT keychain-sized
GPS receiver just moved from my short list to the top of my list of
things to buy.
@Jamiebennett I
think Nokia chose a poor name in Sports Tracker. Activity Tracker
was better, or maybe Travel Tracker would be good. Something to
demonstrate the versatility of the product. I would never have
given it much thought until I heard the guys on @smstextnews podcast talk about
it.
I things its an immense and under-valued bit of software, for me
it was the 'killer app' that made me decide on
buying an N95-8gb. Built in GPS for maps is great if its along the
lines of Maemo Mapper or supports Open Street Map but the built in
Navigator goes against what I believe in.
The activity tracker is great, got me running again and I love
the simple but powerful interface. It still has problems and I feel
Nokia still have a problem with the community (I filed a feedback
bug report over 6 weeks ago and didn't even get an
acknowledgement!) but they are getting better; they still have a
vast divide to traverse though.
I put myself forward as a bug/community tracker/liaison for the
maemo project a short while ago when an opportunity came along and
again I got no reply to my email despise being an active open
source developer and a professionally acclaimed developer. The
lines of communication need improving and even when people are here
to help it seems Nokia aren't always listening.
Sorry this turned into a mini rant as I love the sports tracker
app (apart from it crashing all the time with my n95 whist playing
music on the media player) but I suppose I'm in that kind of
mood.
Trekking, sailing, skiing, paragliding and other air sports...
Even if it's called "Sports" Tracker people are using this (cool)
app for many other things that involve travelling like i.e.
generating tracks for http://openstreetmap.org/ or just
sightseeing. See the "Most Popular" tracks in the ST website and
the diversity of activities involved.
The sightseeing style of use is definitely where my interest
lies. Like the tablet, the (I think misnamed) SportsTracker can be
many different things to different people. Recently, when some
friends were in town, I Yelped all the places we went, and added
them to a list, which in turn automatically creates a map of the
places we were, kind of like the locations on OviShare. This made a
cool complement to a mini site of their visit. And, if I could have
the locations done automagically with SportsTracker.... well, that
would be so cool.

N75 appears in the list of compatible devices at http://research.nokia.com/research/proje... - all you need is a GPS to pair with.
